Position Overview
This role supports a collaborative chemical laboratory team performing analytical testing, wet chemistry, and technical service work for surface finishing and metal coatings. The position is contract-to-hire and fully onsite in Livonia, MI. The laboratory focuses on routine testing for Tier 1/OEM customers, method development, and customer-focused technical projects.
Responsibilities
- Perform daily analytical testing per customer requirements, ensuring accuracy and timely completion.
- Apply wet chemistry techniques: pH measurements, viscosity testing, titrations, and related analyses.
- Operate and support instrumentation including HPLC, IC, UV-VIS, ICP, AA, XRF, microscopy (Leica 3D), environmental salt chambers, and corrosion chambers.
- Record and maintain test data accurately in Excel and cloud-based lab systems.
- Provide technical support to sales and technical service teams for customer projects and internal tasks.
- Set up customer testing procedures and ensure documentation and analysis methods are followed.
- Develop, validate, and improve test methods for raw materials and finished products (titrations, HPLC, IC, etc.).
- Investigate and implement new tests, methods, and instrumentation to expand lab capabilities.
- Support preventive maintenance and calibration schedules for laboratory equipment.
- Follow safety procedures and industry standards for handling and disposing of chemicals and test samples.
- Maintain a clean, organized laboratory and pilot line.
- Collaborate with lab team members and complete additional technical tasks as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications (Must Have)
- Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry (Biochemistry considered as a secondary option).
- 0–2 years laboratory experience, including hands-on wet chemistry (academic lab work, internships, or industry).
- Comfortable and proficient with wet and analytical chemistry techniques (pH, viscosity, titrations).
- Strong math skills and attention to accurate documentation of test results.
- Prior experience working in a chemistry or wet chemistry laboratory environment.
Preferred Qualifications (Nice to Have)
- Experience operating HPLC, IC, UV-VIS, ICP, AA, XRF, torque testing equipment, corrosion/salt chambers, or microscopy tools.
- Prior metal finishing / electroplating or surface coatings experience.
Work Environment & Schedule
- Full-time, fully onsite in a chemical laboratory focused on surface finishing and metal coatings.
- Standard hours: Monday–Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
- Work involves hands-on wet chemistry and use of advanced analytical instruments in a safety-conscious environment.

Compensation & Benefits
- Pay range: $22.00 – $23.00 per hour. Actual compensation depends on qualifications, experience, and other job-related factors.
