Role overview

This Analyst I, Missing Child Data Analytics role supports a confidential client in the legal sector to help recover missing children, identify unidentified living and deceased children, and analyze attempted-abduction incidents. The position focuses on reviewing inbound leads, conducting public-source and database searches (including NCIC/Nlets where authorized), compiling timelines and reports, and alerting case managers and law enforcement to time-sensitive information.


Key responsibilities

  • Review, prioritize, and analyze leads from the call center and other sources; escalate high-priority leads to case managers and law enforcement.
  • Conduct targeted searches using internal databases, public records, social media platforms, and online resources to develop investigative leads.
  • Compile information, establish timelines, analyze findings, and prepare clear, actionable reports for law enforcement and internal teams.
  • Monitor and summarize possible attempted abduction incidents; prepare and distribute bi-weekly summaries to law enforcement.
  • Maintain an internal and external network to identify trends and support casework and special projects.
  • Participate in rotating on-call coverage for emergency or time-sensitive requests outside normal business hours.
  • Provide demonstrations, tours, and onboarding support for new staff and visitors as requested.
  • Support projects assigned by leadership, coordinate with interns as needed, and present team status updates in division meetings.
  • Follow policies, protect confidential and sensitive materials, and maintain professional communications with co-workers, partners, and law enforcement.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice or a related field required (or equivalent education/experience).
  • Two years of related work or internship experience preferred; experience analyzing criminal activity or missing-children cases is strongly preferred.
  • Eligibility to apply for VCIN certification is required (U.S. citizenship or lawful U.S. residency for the past 10 consecutive years) and must obtain VCIN certification within three months of hire.
  • Successful completion of background screening, including fingerprinting and criminal history checks, is required.
  • Demonstrated experience collecting and analyzing information, producing assessments and written reports.
  • Strong familiarity with major social media platforms and public-source search techniques.
  • Proficient with Windows-based operating systems and standard office tools.
  • Excellent verbal, telephone, and written communication skills.
  • Strong attention to detail, ability to prioritize workload, and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team; flexible schedule to support evenings/weekends and on-call duties as required.
  • Ability to travel occasionally for conferences and training.

Certifications & background checks

  • Must be eligible for and obtain VCIN certification within three (3) months of hire; maintenance of required training and certification is mandatory.
  • Role requires background screening, fingerprinting, criminal history checks, and professional references due to access to sensitive law-enforcement systems and content.

Work hours, schedule & location

  • Typical hours: Monday–Friday, 9:00 AM – 5:30 PM (37.5 hours per week).
  • Possibility of evening, weekend, and on-call work as required.
  • Location: Alexandria, VA (on-site). Travel as needed for training and conferences.

Compensation & employment type

  • Employment type: Full-time or contractor (per the client’s needs).
  • Estimated annual pay (Adzuna estimate): $37,613 per year — the confidential client will confirm final pay, benefits, and contractor terms during the hiring process.

Preferred skills

  • Prior analytical experience supporting law enforcement or investigative teams.
  • Experience using NCIC/Nlets or similar law-enforcement databases (after certification).
  • Strong public-source and social-media research skills.
  • Ability to synthesize complex information into concise reports and timelines.
