What You’ll Do

This is an entry-level Histotechnologist Trainee role supporting dermatology MOHS lab procedures. You will learn to prepare biological tissue for histological analysis and diagnosis under direct supervision, develop basic histological and immunohistochemical technique skills, and help maintain timely, high-quality pathology support for clinical teams.

  • Assist with processing patient and research tissue according to department protocols
  • Prepare, label, and handle specimens for histology and immunohistochemistry
  • Learn and perform routine histology techniques (fixation, embedding, microtomy, staining)
  • Support quality control, equipment maintenance, and inventory tasks
  • Provide professional, patient-focused customer service in clinic and laboratory settings
  • Help physicians and clinical staff with specimen handling and workflow needs

Schedule & Location

  • Location: Omaha, NE
  • Typical hours: First Shift — Monday–Friday, hours generally between 6:30 AM and 5:00 PM (dependent on caseload and schedule)
  • Employment type: Full-time (Internship/trainee program structure may apply)

Compensation

  • Estimated pay: $27,989 per year (estimated)
    • Note: This is an employer-provided estimate shown on the source posting. Actual pay may vary based on experience and qualifications.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Education/training equivalent to 60 semester hours from an accredited institution that includes either:
    • a) 24 semester hours of medical laboratory technology courses; or
    • b) 24 semester hours of science courses that include: 6 semester hours of chemistry, 6 semester hours of biology, and an additional 12 semester hours of chemistry, biology, or medical laboratory technology in any combination
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification endorsed by the American Heart Association (AHA) required upon completion of unit orientation

Preferred Qualifications

  • Recent laboratory experience — histology lab experience preferred
  • Experience in a physician’s office preferred
  • Bachelor of Science or formal histology training program completion preferred
  • Medical assistant certification a plus
