Summary

Confidential Client (IT) is hiring an entry‑level AI Engineer to join a product and engineering team building LLM-powered applications, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) pipelines, and model-serving APIs. This role offers hands‑on experience with modern GenAI tooling, data pipelines, and deployment practices under close technical mentorship.

What You’ll Do

You will contribute to the design, development, testing, and deployment of AI-enabled software and production MLOps. Typical responsibilities include:

  • Perform assigned technical and analytic tasks using established methods; document methods and results.
  • Build and maintain components of LLM-based solutions: API integrations, prompt and tool/function-calling workflows, and basic RAG pipelines (chunking, embeddings, vector search).
  • Clean, transform, and analyze data using Python, SQL, and common data libraries; implement simple ETL steps and visualizations.
  • Write and execute unit tests, retrieval/model evaluations, and help reproduce and triage reported issues.
  • Serve models and AI services via REST APIs and containers; follow deployment runbooks and make small configuration changes.
  • Track experiments and model versions; support monitoring, CI/CD, and basic MLOps workflows.
  • Participate in code reviews, pair programming, and documentation of reproducible methods and escalation steps.
  • Follow quality, safety, and AI guardrail standards and communicate progress and risks to project leads.

Qualifications

Minimum qualifications (entry-level):

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or relevant STEM certification.
  • Strong problem decomposition and clear verbal/written communication; able to explain technical results to non‑technical stakeholders.
  • Solid Python fundamentals: data types, control flow, functions, OOP, virtual environments.
  • Experience with Python data libraries (NumPy, pandas) and basic visualizations (Matplotlib, Seaborn, Plotly).
  • Familiarity with testing and code quality practices: type hints, unit testing (pytest), logging, PEP 8.
  • Basic API and web knowledge: REST concepts, requests; experience or exposure to FastAPI or Flask to serve models.
  • SQL competency: SELECT, WHERE, JOINs, GROUP BY, subqueries; experience with PostgreSQL/MySQL/SQLite.
  • Version control experience with Git/GitHub and familiarity with Jupyter and VS Code.
  • Comfortable learning new platforms, frameworks, and cloud basics (AWS/Azure/GCP).

Preferred / Helpful Skills

These are not strict requirements but will help you succeed quickly:

  • Practical experience or coursework with LLM APIs (OpenAI, Anthropic) and structured outputs / tool calling.
  • Familiarity with RAG concepts: chunking, embeddings, vector search and vector stores (pgvector, Chroma, FAISS, Pinecone).
  • Exposure to LangChain or LlamaIndex and agent patterns.
  • Basic Docker and model‑serving experience (FastAPI + Docker).
  • Familiarity with experiment tracking (MLflow, Weights & Biases), CI/CD basics, and monitoring.
  • Experience with NoSQL (MongoDB) or caching (Redis) and data pipeline concepts (Airflow).
  • Interest in MLOps and productionizing models.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Base pay: $58,656 per year (reported for this posting). Actual compensation may vary based on experience, location, and other factors.
  • The role is eligible for the company’s standard benefits package (medical/dental/vision, paid time off, 401(k), and short‑term incentive programs) where applicable.

Additional information

  • Employment type: Full‑time.
  • This position will follow Confidential Client’s policies for equal employment opportunity and reasonable accommodations.
