Role overview

This entry-level AI-Enabled Solution Architect role supports capture and proposal development for Department of Defense (DoD) opportunities. Reporting to the Lead Solution Architect, you will act as a shared resource across capture teams to shape compliant, competitive technical approaches using enterprise and commercial AI tools. This is a pre-award (capture/proposal) position — no post-award execution responsibility.

Key responsibilities

This role focuses on turning requirements into proposal-ready solution artifacts and applying AI tooling to accelerate and standardize solution development.

  • Support live DoD captures and proposals by developing concept-level technical solutions that respond to solicitation requirements, evaluation criteria, and customer constraints under LSA guidance.
  • Translate customer requirements, technical baselines, and capability narratives into proposal artifacts (solution descriptions, features/benefits tables, compliance mappings, discriminators) using AI-assisted analysis and drafting.
  • Create and refine reusable solution architectures, workflows, and patterns that prioritize clarity, compliance, and competitive differentiation.
  • Draft and edit technical and management volume content describing how proposed solutions meet mission needs, reduce risk, and deliver measurable value.
  • Assist rapid iteration during color-team reviews (Pink/Red/Gold) by refining solution narratives and artifacts based on reviewer feedback.

AI-enabled solutioning & tooling

You will apply enterprise and commercial AI tools to increase speed, consistency, and innovation in proposal development.

  • Use internal secure AI platforms (e.g., ChatGPT.gov, AwardedAI) and commercial tools (e.g., Claude) to analyze RFPs/RFIs, identify requirements and risks, and generate/refine solution concepts and narratives.
  • Develop and maintain repeatable prompt patterns and AI workflows to improve output quality and throughput.
  • Apply prompt engineering best practices to guide AI toward accurate, relevant, and compliant outputs for defense missions and federal contracting.
  • Curate and organize AI-generated content to ensure technical coherence and alignment with capture strategy and the Lead Solution Architect’s direction.

PWin & competitive differentiation

Work closely with capture and proposal leadership to ensure solutioning directly supports win themes.

  • Align AI-enabled solution concepts with win themes, strengths, and discriminators.
  • Identify AI-revealed opportunities for efficiency, innovation, or differentiators that improve Probability of Win (PWin).
  • Support capture analytics and evidence used during color-team evaluations and strategy updates.

Collaboration & stakeholder engagement

Operate as a shared resource across pursuits and coordinate with cross-functional teams.

  • Collaborate with the Lead Solution Architect (primary supervisor and mentor), capture managers, proposal managers, technical SMEs, engineering leads, and operations/program managers.
  • Balance workload across multiple proposals and priorities as directed by capture/proposal leadership.
  • Ensure technical accuracy, operational realism, and traceability from requirements to solution features.

AI advocacy, enablement & safe use

Promote responsible, secure, and effective AI adoption across capture and proposal activities.

  • Serve as a day-to-day advocate for safe, compliant AI use in capture and proposal work.
  • Support AI pilots and internal experiments; document lessons learned and recommended practices.
  • Coach colleagues on effective prompt strategies, tool limitations, and quality assurance while emphasizing data protection and oversight.

Required qualifications

  • Minimum 10 years of experience supporting DoD or similar government mission-support environments.
  • Strong domain knowledge of defense missions and typical solution constructs (systems integration, logistics & sustainment, training & simulation, C5ISR, etc.).
  • Familiarity with federal proposal structure and evaluation criteria (technical and management volumes).
  • Demonstrated proficiency with commercial AI products (e.g., ChatGPT, Claude) applied to analysis, drafting, and solution exploration.
  • Experience designing effective prompts and repeatable prompt patterns for consistent, high-quality AI outputs.
  • Excellent written communications skills for formal, structured, customer-facing proposal content.
  • Strong analytical skills and high attention to detail; ability to synthesize RFP requirements and stakeholder input into coherent solution narratives.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen and eligible to obtain and maintain a security clearance as required by assigned projects.
  • Ability to support aggressive proposal timelines, including surge periods and non-standard hours.

Preferred qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, computer science, data/AI, business, or a defense-related discipline.
  • Familiarity with enterprise/secure AI environments (e.g., ChatGPT.gov, AwardedAI).
  • Conceptual/architectural exposure to generative AI, retrieval-augmented generation, and AI-assisted analytics.
  • Experience with structured capture/proposal processes (Shipley, gated reviews, color teams).
  • Proven experience working with cross-functional capture/proposal teams.

Working conditions

  • Location: Remote within CONUS; occasional travel (<20%) for team sessions, workshops, or proposal orals may be required.
  • Schedule: Must support proposal timelines and surge periods, including non-standard hours as needed.
  • Reporting: Reports to the Lead Solution Architect and operates as a shared resource supporting multiple teams.

Compensation & benefits

  • Base salary (good-faith estimate): $140,000.
  • Benefits typically include:
    • Health, dental, and vision insurance
    • Paid time off and holidays
    • Retirement benefits (including 401(k) matching)
    • Educational reimbursement
    • Parental leave
    • Employee stock purchase plan (where applicable)
    • Disability and life insurance
    • Additional voluntary benefits (e.g., pet insurance)
  • Note: Specific benefits may vary by employment type, work location, collective bargaining agreements, or other legal requirements.

Why this role matters

This position increases capture capacity across the full spectrum of DoD pursuits — especially smaller and mid-sized bids that require strong solutioning but often have constrained resources. By applying AI to solution shaping and proposal development, you will help improve proposal quality, consistency, and innovation, directly contributing to higher PWin for the Confidential Client.
