What You’ll Do

The Confidential Client is seeking an AI Data Scientist to develop and deploy advanced algorithms for Automated Defect Classification (ADC) and Die‑to‑Database (DB) comparison in industrial optical inspection systems. Responsibilities include:

  • Design, train, and optimize deep learning and computer-vision models for automated defect detection and classification.
  • Develop object-detection and image-classification approaches to identify microscopic defects (particles, scratches, pattern anomalies).
  • Build high‑precision image registration, geometric alignment, and image‑matching algorithms to compare captured optical images with CAD/database layouts.
  • Improve image-alignment accuracy and algorithm robustness across varying imaging conditions.
  • Apply statistical modeling, signal-processing, denoising, and feature-extraction techniques to improve image quality and inspection accuracy.
  • Analyze large, noisy datasets to improve signal-to-noise ratios and model performance.
  • Evaluate model performance on real-world inspection data; investigate and resolve edge cases.
  • Improve model accuracy through iterative training approaches, active learning, and few‑shot learning techniques.
  • Collaborate with software engineers, field applications teams, and domain experts to validate and deploy production-ready models.
  • Document algorithms, experiments, datasets, and model-performance results; participate in code reviews and technical discussions.
  • Support data preparation, annotation, validation, and QA activities.
  • Stay current with developments in computer vision, machine learning, and AI relevant to industrial inspection.

Preferred Qualifications

We encourage candidates who can demonstrate experience in the following areas:

  • Hands-on experience designing and training computer-vision / deep-learning models for defect detection or similar image-analysis problems.
  • Experience developing image-registration, alignment, and image-matching algorithms for high-precision applications.
  • Background in statistical modeling, signal processing, denoising, and feature extraction for imaging data.
  • Experience working with large, noisy datasets and applying techniques to improve signal-to-noise and model robustness.
  • Familiarity with iterative training workflows, active learning, and few‑shot learning strategies.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to collaborate across engineering and domain‑expert teams.
  • Clear documentation and communication of experiments, results, and deployment considerations.

(If you have formal education in a quantitative field or prior experience in industrial inspection applications, please highlight that in your application—but a specific degree is not required unless listed by the Confidential Client.)
