What You’ll Do
Confidential Client seeks an Advocate Counselor to support transfer high‑school students who are over‑age and under‑credited. The role focuses on counseling, case management, advocacy, crisis intervention, and post‑secondary planning.
- Provide academic planning and case management for a caseload of 40+ students
- Deliver weekly individual counseling and daily group counseling; facilitate an Advisory Group five days per week
- Conduct attendance outreach, including family outreach and home visits, to remove barriers to regular attendance
- Develop actionable post‑secondary plans and assist students with college application support
- Provide immediate crisis intervention and mediation as needed
- Maintain accurate case records and documentation for all students on caseload
- Attend DOE Parent‑Teacher conferences, school leadership and PTA meetings, and out‑of‑town college trips per the DOE school calendar
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Program Coordinator
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree required; MSW preferred
- Demonstrated experience providing case management and direct services to youth and families
- Prior experience in a school setting and working with transfer or at‑risk students
- Experience with college preparatory support preferred
- Strong time management, organizational, verbal and written communication skills
- Commitment to strength‑based, youth and family development approaches
- Knowledge of trauma‑informed practice is a plus
- Willingness to be creative and collaborate as part of a multidisciplinary team
- Must pass fingerprinting and criminal background checks as required by DOE/DOH
- Commitment to creating an inclusive environment that fosters belonging and connectedness
Compensation & Schedule
- Salary: $50,000 per year (salary range provided: $50,000 - $50,000)
- Employment type: Full‑time — 35 hours per week, Monday–Friday, 9:00 AM–5:00 PM
- Work location: In‑person at the school site (300 Willoughby Ave, Brooklyn) — this posting indicates the position is fully in‑person and does not offer remote work
