What You’ll Do
This is a field-facing Adult Protective Services (APS) role focused on protecting vulnerable adults from abuse, neglect, self-neglect, and exploitation. Working at the I or II level, you will investigate allegations, assess capacity and risk, develop and coordinate service plans, complete necessary legal documentation, and appear in court as required.
- Receive and investigate APS intakes and referrals.
- Assess adults’ capacity and needs; determine appropriate voluntary or involuntary interventions.
- Coordinate service plans with adults, families, caregivers, and community providers.
- Prepare legal forms, support court proceedings, and provide testimony when required.
- Maintain thorough documentation and case notes in accordance with policy.
- Conduct follow-up visits and ongoing case monitoring.
- Use self-protection and safety techniques during field visits.
- Travel extensively across assigned area; reliable transportation, valid driver’s license, and required auto insurance are mandatory.
Compensation & Benefits
- Salary range: $38,857.35 – $41,770.20 per year (Level I – Level II).
- Full state employee benefits included.
- Salary level depends on qualifications and selected level (I or II).
Minimum Qualifications
Adult Protective Services Specialist, Level I
- Bachelor’s degree in any field required.
- Entry-level role; work performed in training status until completion of the APS New Worker Training Academy.
Adult Protective Services Specialist, Level II
- Master’s degree OR
- Bachelor’s degree plus one year of experience in professional social work.
Typical Responsibilities by Level
Level I
- Participate in investigations alongside higher-level APS staff.
- Complete follow-up activities and coordinate services for adults under supervision.
- Prepare legal documentation and attend hearings as needed.
- Attend required training and apply self-protection techniques.
- Perform routine APS investigations independently as skills develop.
Level II
- Receive intakes and complete full investigations with appropriate documentation.
- Perform comprehensive assessments and determine interventions.
- Make collateral contacts to gather history and evaluate urgency.
- Initiate and follow through on court proceedings, and serve as temporary guardian within court-ordered limits when applicable.
- Lead development of service plans and provide follow-up visits per policy.
Preferred / Helpful Experience
- Prior experience in social work, adult services, case management, or investigations.
- Familiarity with legal processes related to guardianship or protective services.
- Strong written documentation and verbal testimony skills.
- Comfort working independently and in the community.

- This position is located in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
- Travel is EXTENSIVE. Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and required car insurance.
