What You’ll Do

This opportunity with a confidential client supports Adult Protective Services (APS) in Lawton, OK. You will investigate reports of abuse, neglect, self‑neglect, and exploitation of incapacitated adults and take actions to protect vulnerable adults.

Primary responsibilities (Level I & II):

  • Receive and screen APS intakes and allegations.
  • Investigate alleged abuse, neglect, self‑neglect, and exploitation.
  • Assess adult capacity, safety, and care needs; determine appropriate voluntary or involuntary interventions.
  • Coordinate service plans and follow‑up visits with adults, families, and community providers.
  • Prepare legal documentation, attend hearings, and provide testimony when required.
  • Make collateral contacts to gather background and supporting information.
  • Apply approved self‑protection techniques during fieldwork.

Additional Level I responsibilities:

  • Participate in training and perform entry‑level duties under supervision prior to completion of the APS New Worker Training Academy.
  • Assist higher‑level staff with investigations and perform routine independent investigations as assigned.

Additional Level II responsibilities:

  • Lead full investigations and case management for complex referrals.
  • Initiate and follow through on court proceedings for involuntary protective services and, where ordered, serve as a temporary guardian within court limits.
  • Develop and implement individualized service plans with the adult and caregivers.

Minimum Qualifications

Level I:

  • Bachelor’s degree in any field.

Level II:

  • Master’s degree; OR
  • Bachelor’s degree plus one (1) year of professional social work experience.

Note:

  • The complexity of duties and final salary depend on the level of qualification selected at hire.
  • This role requires extensive travel; candidates must possess a valid driver’s license and maintain required auto insurance.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Level I (H26A): $38,857.35 per year + full state employee benefits.
  • Level II (H26B): $41,770.20 per year + full state employee benefits.

Working Conditions & Other Requirements

  • Work requires regular travel across the service area; reliable transportation and proof of insurance are required.
  • Casework may involve court appearances and exposure to stressful situations; applicants must be able to perform field visits and testify as needed.
  • This is a position in the Oklahoma Civil Service.

Preferred Skills (not required)

  • Experience in adult protective services, geriatrics, or case management.
  • Strong documentation and legal form‑preparation skills.
  • Good interpersonal skills for working with adults, families, and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Ability to manage caseloads and prioritize urgent safety concerns.
