Position Overview

Confidential Client is hiring an entry-level Accounts Payable Assistant in Kansas City, KS (on-site). This role is ideal for someone with strong attention to detail, a service mindset, and an eagerness to learn AP processes (invoice validation, exception research, EDI troubleshooting, and reconciliations). Pay: $18–$20 / hour. This is a full-time opportunity with benefits and clear pathways for career growth within a large wholesale food distribution cooperative.


What You’ll Do

You will support daily AP operations that directly impact vendors, distribution centers, and retail members:

  • Review, validate, and process high volumes of vendor invoices (paper and EDI).
  • Reconcile invoices to PO numbers and receiving records to ensure billing accuracy.
  • Run exception reports and research discrepancies using raw EDI data and source documents.
  • Coordinate with Merchandising, Warehouse, and AP leadership to resolve payment blockers.
  • Use internal systems (Content Manager, OnDemand, Balances, PeopleSoft) to research and reconcile accounts.
  • Manage inquiries and follow-ups through ServiceNow and other case-management tools.
  • Identify and implement small process improvements to reduce rework and free capacity for higher-level tasks.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required. Associate’s or Bachelor’s in Business/Accounting/Finance is a plus but not required.
  • Comfortable with 10-key and keyboarding by touch.
  • Quick to learn new software; prior exposure to PeopleSoft or ERP systems helpful but not required.
  • No prior AP experience required — candidates with strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and customer-service experience are encouraged to apply.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. and able to work on-site in Kansas City, KS.

The organization operates distribution support centers and several subsidiary lines of business.
