Accounting & Finance Associate
The Accounting & Finance Associate at Confidential Client is responsible for managing critical accounting operations and supporting financial reporting and analysis in a fast-paced, growth-oriented environment. This role involves ownership of month-end close processes, transaction processing, reconciliations, and financial modeling, while driving process improvements and automation to support the company's scaling finance organization. What You’ll Do
You will join the finance team as an Accounting & Finance Associate supporting accounting operations, month-end close, financial reporting, cash management, and performance analysis. Expect ~70% of your time on accounting activities (transaction processing, reconciliations, journal entries, fixed assets, close) and ~30% on finance tasks (liquidity reporting, KPI analysis, management reporting, financial modeling). You will report to the Vice President of Finance & Procurement and collaborate across construction, engineering, customer success, sales, and operations. This is an onsite role in Newton, New Jersey.
Key Responsibilities
- Support accounts payable: review vendor invoices, validate documentation, code expenses, and ensure timely processing.
- Support accounts receivable: record customer payments, reconcile receipts, and resolve system vs. record differences.
- Prepare bank and balance-sheet account reconciliations; investigate and resolve reconciling items.
- Prepare and post recurring and nonrecurring journal entries with supporting documentation.
- Participate in monthly, quarterly, and annual close activities and maintain accurate accounting schedules and workpapers.
- Assist with fixed-asset and capital-project accounting (additions, transfers, disposals, depreciation, CIP).
- Review transactions for appropriate classification and U.S. GAAP compliance.
- Assist with monthly management reporting packages and KPI analyses.
- Support cash-flow and short-term liquidity reporting and forecasts.
- Help design, implement, and maintain automated accounting workflows, reconciliations, reports, and system controls (NetSuite experience a plus).
- Identify process improvements to reduce manual work, improve data quality, and accelerate close.
- Document procedures and support system implementations and special projects as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a closely related field.
- 0–2 years of relevant professional experience (internship or professional experience in public accounting, corporate accounting, FP&A, or audit is acceptable).
- Strong understanding of fundamental accounting concepts and U.S. GAAP.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills for organizing, analyzing, reconciling, and interpreting large datasets.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with high attention to detail.
- Clear written and verbal communication skills; ability to explain financial information to non-finance partners.
- Ability to manage multiple deadlines, prioritize effectively, and work independently while collaborating across departments.
- Willingness to learn new systems, processes, and business concepts quickly.
- Ability to work onsite in Newton, New Jersey.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with NetSuite or other ERP systems.
- Experience with QuickBooks.
- Experience using Power BI or other BI/data-visualization tools.
- Exposure to SQL or Python.
- Experience building or maintaining financial models.
- Experience implementing automated workflows or improving accounting processes.
- Familiarity with fixed-asset and capital-project accounting or infrastructure-heavy businesses.

Compensation
The anticipated base salary range for this position is $80,000 to $100,000 annually. Actual compensation will be determined based on experience, qualifications, and overall fit for the role.
