Role Overview

This Accountant II – Tax role supports tax return preparation, payroll processing, monthly and quarterly accounting, year-end compilations, and other client accounting projects. The position works under the supervision of Managers, Senior Managers, or Shareholders and focuses on accurate, timely client service and compliance.


What You’ll Do

  • Assist with tax returns: process organizers, enter data into tax software, and prepare return data for review
  • Perform payroll tasks, including check processing and preparing quarterly payroll reports for federal and state filing (for review)
  • Prepare data entry for monthly and quarterly accounting and financial statements and support year‑end compilation work
  • Process and distribute 1099s at year end
  • Research tax, payroll, and compliance questions to ensure accuracy with IRS, state, and federal rules
  • Build and maintain professional client relationships with integrity and timely service
  • Provide transactional support to the CAS (Client Accounting Services) team and help coordinate delivery of services
  • Begin developing local marketing and networking contacts to support client expansion and cross‑sell services
  • Complete other duties as assigned; maintain strict confidentiality of client and firm information

To Qualify

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting from an accredited university
  • Preferred: Meets Montana State Board of Public Accountants requirements to be eligible to sit for the CPA exam
  • Public accounting experience and/or internship experience preferred
  • Candidate must successfully pass a background check

  • Strong Excel and general computer skills; attention to detail and excellent organizational ability
  • Good written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to work effectively as a team member under supervision
  • Commitment to excellent, timely client service

Compensation & Benefits

  • Estimated salary: $66,296 per year (estimated)
