What You’ll Do

Confidential Client is hiring an entry-level Accountant to support fiscal operations for its land use and environmental services team. This role performs general and technical accounting work under direct supervision and requires a strong customer-service orientation.

  • Analyze and monitor compliance with financial, reporting, and legal requirements
  • Prepare, review, reconcile and submit financial reports and statements to internal departments and external agencies
  • Organize and prepare budget documentation; determine revenue and expenditure coding and reconcile budget results
  • Prepare invoices, assign expenditures to the correct cost centers, verify postings, and maintain accounts payable ledgers
  • Enter and maintain automated and manual accounting records; perform accurate data entry
  • Prepare revenue and expenditure reports, executive summaries, aging reports and other accounting records
  • Review and audit source documents, post transactions, and reconcile ledgers
  • Support department fiscal monitoring and reporting needs; provide technical assistance on fiscal policies and budget guidelines
  • Assist with grant applications, financial reports and other compliance-related tasks
  • Coordinate with internal teams to deliver timely financial information and resolve accounting issues

Minimum Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration (a combination of relevant education and experience will be considered)
  • Experience: No prior professional experience required — entry level
  • Licenses: May require a valid North Carolina or South Carolina driver’s license

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with accounting work or financial analysis (internships, coursework, or related experience are relevant)
  • Familiarity with governmental accounting procedures and grant reporting

Skills & Tools

  • Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and governmental accounting procedures
  • Proficiency in financial analysis, working with balance sheets, journal entries, and chart of accounts
  • Intermediate Microsoft Excel and proficiency with Microsoft Office applications
  • Strong quantitative and qualitative analysis skills
  • Effective written and verbal communication; active listening and customer service focus
  • Ability to interpret financial documents, apply logic and reasoning to problem solving, and monitor information for decision-making

Compensation & Schedule

  • Pay: $25.00 - $31.00 per hour (non-exempt; pay is based on education, skill, experience level and internal equity)
  • Employment type: Full-time

  • Office-based setting with moderate noise
  • This role may involve duties that support ADA-compliant technologies; the incumbent will follow County policies and may be required to assist in emergency/disaster situations
