What You’ll Do

Under close supervision, perform routine professional accounting and pre-audit work for the confidential client’s Office of Budget and Finance — Accounting Division. Core responsibilities include:

  • Train and assist in preparation and analysis of accounting reports and financial statements.
  • Verify and reconcile general ledger accounts.
  • Prepare journal entries for retirement and investment activity.
  • Resolve bookkeeping errors and inconsistencies.
  • Review and verify manager invoices for payment and prepare related correspondence.
  • Assist with month-end and year-end closing procedures.
  • Support pre-auditing of accounts, ledgers, journals, and other accounting records.
  • Prepare detailed statistical reports and analyses.
  • Assist with special accounting, financial, and procedural studies.

Examples of Other Duties

May lead or supervise accounting clerical personnel and perform other related duties as required. Duties listed are representative and may not include all essential functions for every assignment.


Qualifications

Minimum education / experience (one of the following):

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting from an accredited college or university.
  • OR Associate (A.A.) degree in accounting plus at least two years’ experience in accounting, auditing, or bookkeeping.
  • OR Accounting certificate from an accredited college or university plus at least three years’ experience in accounting, auditing, or bookkeeping.

Knowledge, skills, and abilities:

  • Knowledge of accounting, cost accounting, and auditing theory, principles, practices, and procedures.
  • Familiarity with automated accounting systems and governmental budgeting and accounting procedures.
  • Ability to maintain and analyze complex accounting records, ledgers, journals, and statements.
  • Ability to prepare accounting reports, analyses, statistical reports, and journal entries.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to establish effective working relationships.
  • Skill in leading and instructing others (where applicable).
