Summary
Confidential Client is hiring an entry-level Accountant I to join their finance team in Idaho Falls, ID. This role supports municipal accounting functions including monthly reporting, general ledger maintenance, reconciliations, payroll support, audit preparations, and budget assistance. What You’ll Do
- Assist in preparing monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and budgets for City departments, Council, and the annual financial audit.
- Prepare journal entries (interdepartmental transfers, depreciation, receivables/payables, revenues/expenditures).
- Analyze account activity; identify and correct discrepancies; perform reconciliations.
- Support payroll processing and reporting tasks.
- Prepare year-end audit work papers and coordinate documentation with auditors.
- Assist with the annual comprehensive financial report and budget preparation.
- Review and help audit departmental compliance with internal controls, financial policies, and personnel policies.
- Cross-train with finance staff to provide coverage and support as needed.
- Perform related duties to support the integrity of financial accounting records.
Minimum Qualifications
- Education and Experience
- Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a Bachelor's degree in Accounting and/or Public Finance — or anticipated graduation within six months of hire; OR
- An equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Working knowledge of municipal accounting principles and accounting systems.
- Proficient with Microsoft Excel (spreadsheets, formulas, basic data analysis).
- Ability to prepare accurate, detailed financial reports and statements.
- Strong numerical aptitude and ability to perform rapid, accurate calculations.
- Ability to analyze accounting systems and adapt to problems where procedures may not exist.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to develop productive working relationships with department heads, supervisors, colleagues, and the public.

- Typical office environment with standard climate control.
- Job duties require sitting, standing, walking, occasional stooping, reaching, and manual dexterity for routine tasks.

Compensation & Benefits
- Pay Range: $65,145.60 - $70,886.40 per year.
- Full-time employees are eligible for a comprehensive benefits program including medical, dental, vision, life insurance, and retirement through PERSI (defined benefit plan).
