Nature of Work
Performs professional and technical accounting work to examine, analyze, maintain, reconcile, and verify financial records for public-sector funds. Work is primarily performed in a standard office environment with frequent computer use. Regular attendance is an essential function of this role. The position is subject to drug testing in accordance with applicable State and Federal regulations and Confidential Client policies.
What You’ll Do
- Review, approve, and post accounting documents to ensure accurate calculations and proper authorization.
- Reconcile revenue, expenditures, and complex transactions (including grant funds) to the general ledger.
- Prepare correcting journal entries and maintain fund integrity across ledgers and special funds.
- Perform general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and capital asset accounting duties as assigned.
- Prepare, update, and distribute recurring and ad‑hoc financial reports, billings, and schedules.
- Maintain and update Chart of Accounts items (funds, departments, budget units, project/object codes) and assist in developing new account structures.
- Investigate discrepancies, research accounting records, and recommend corrective actions or process improvements.
- Provide technical accounting information to staff and support annual financial reporting and audit activities as needed.
Distinguishing Characteristics & Work Environment
- Entry-level professional accounting role with increasing independence as experience grows.
- Full-time, regular, exempt position (graded at RX17).
- Primarily office-based with light physical demands; frequent to constant computer work.
- Position may involve competing demands, multiple tasks, and occasional work beyond normal business hours.

Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a closely related field PLUS one (1) year of professional-level accounting experience.
- A combination of education, experience, and training may be considered under Confidential Client policy.
- Public sector fund accounting experience is preferred but not required.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
General knowledge of:
- Federal, state, and local laws and regulations related to municipal accounting and governmental financial reporting.
- Generally accepted accounting and auditing principles for the public sector, grant and special fund accounting procedures.
- Records management, report generation, and modern office/financial software.
Ability to:
- Accurately perform accounting calculations, reconcile accounts, and meet time‑sensitive deadlines.
- Read, interpret, and apply policies, procedures, contracts, and regulations.
- Research, analyze, and prepare accurate financial reports.
- Communicate clearly in writing and verbally; maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.
- Prioritize tasks and exercise initiative and independent judgment within established guidelines.
Skills in:
- General ledger maintenance, account reconciliation, and identifying/correcting errors.
- Preparing journal entries and financial reports.
- Using business software and accounting information systems.
Compensation & Employment Type
- Salary range: $53,723.90 — $76,425.65 per year (as provided by the source posting).
- Employment type: Full-time, regular, exempt.
