Overview

Confidential Client (Public Broadcasting / State Government) is hiring an Accountant I to join a small, collaborative Finance team on the UCA campus in Conway, AR. This role provides hands-on accounting experience across grants, contracts, receivables, expenditures, and general ledger functions, and offers exposure to senior finance leadership and clear opportunities for professional growth.


Location & Work Arrangement

This position is based in Conway, AR and requires candidates to live within commuting distance to the Conway location. The role is primarily on-site; after six months of employment, employees may be eligible for one remote workday per week. This position is not eligible for relocation assistance.


What You’ll Do

  • Create and maintain accounting records for the general ledger, grants, contracts, receivables, expenditures, assets, and inventory.
  • Process journal entries and reconcile projects and accounts; identify and resolve discrepancies.
  • Establish and manage grant/contract accounts: billings, invoices, drawdowns, budget modifications, expense transfers, and receivables.
  • Process accounts payable and accounts receivable transactions, including travel reimbursements, following state purchasing and travel policy.
  • Prepare financial reports, spreadsheets, and database files to support budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis.
  • Analyze financial data, trends, revenues, expenditures, and obligations to project budget needs.
  • Assist in developing and improving accounting systems, procedures, and automated processes.
  • Provide technical assistance to management, staff, and external stakeholders on accounting, budget, grant, and financial policy questions.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field from an accredited college or university.
  • Six months or more of Arkansas state accounting experience using Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) when processing accounting transactions through an automated accounting software system.

Desired Qualifications

  • Knowledge of governmental accounting principles, budgeting, and financial reporting practices.
  • Familiarity with applicable state and federal financial laws, regulations, and accounting standards.
  • Experience with AASIS or SAP for transaction entry and reporting preferred.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel at an intermediate level or higher (e.g., formulas, pivot tables, spreadsheet construction).
  • Strong analytical, organizational, problem-solving, communication, and attention-to-detail skills.

  • Salary Range: $58,700 - $86,876 (annual) — Anticipated starting salary: $58,700

Knowledge & Skills

  • Working knowledge of governmental accounting, financial reporting, and budgeting processes.
  • Comfortable using accounting/ERP systems (SAP/AASIS experience is a plus) and common office software.
  • Ability to prepare and present financial statements, budgets, and reports.
  • Demonstrated ability to follow policy and maintain compliance with state financial regulations.
