Accountant (Full-time, Contract)

Role Summary
Confidential Client is seeking an Accountant I (Full-time, Contract) to join a small, collaborative Finance team at their Conway, AR location. This role supports financial operations including general ledger, grants and contract accounting, accounts payable/receivable, reconciliations, and financial reporting. This is an on-site position; candidates must live within commuting distance and the role is not eligible for relocation. After six months, the position may be eligible for one remote workday per week.
What You’ll Do
- Create and maintain accounting records for the general ledger, grants, contracts, receivables, expenditures, assets, and inventory
- Process journal entries and reconcile projects and accounts; identify and resolve discrepancies
- Establish and manage grant and contract accounts: billings, invoices, drawdowns, budget mods, transfers, and receivables
- Handle accounts receivable and accounts payable, including travel transaction processing
- Prepare financial reports, spreadsheets, and database files to support budgeting, forecasting, and analysis
- Analyze financial data, trends, revenues, expenditures, and obligations to project budget needs
- Ensure purchasing and travel procedures are followed and account coding is accurate per finance policies
- Help develop and improve accounting systems, procedures, and automated financial processes
- Provide technical assistance on accounting, budget, grant, and financial policy questions to staff and stakeholders
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field from an accredited college or university
- 6 months or more of Arkansas state accounting experience using Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and an automated accounting software system
Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge of governmental accounting principles, budgeting, and financial reporting practices
- Familiarity with applicable state and federal financial laws, regulations, and accounting standards
- Experience using AASIS or SAP for transaction entry and reporting
- Intermediate (or higher) proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including accounting-focused spreadsheets
Compensation & Location
- Employment type: Full-time (Contract)
- Salary range: $58,700 - $86,876 per year
- Location: Conway, AR — on-site at the client’s Conway location (candidates must be within commuting distance). Not eligible for relocation.
- Remote/hybrid: Eligibility for one remote workday per week after six months (per client policy)
Skills & Tools
- Strong analytical, organizational, problem-solving, and communication skills
- Attention to detail and accuracy in financial recordkeeping
- Accounting systems: SAP and/or AASIS experience preferred
- Microsoft Excel (intermediate+), experience creating accounting spreadsheets
- Practical knowledge of GAAP, grant accounting, accounts payable/receivable, reconciliations, and journal entries
