Position summary
Confidential Client (Health & Human Services) is hiring for an Accountant Auditor I/II in Keswick, CA. This is a public‑sector accounting/auditing role supporting fiscal operations, budget preparation, audits, and financial reporting for the Health & Human Services administrative branch. The recruitment is open to both entry-level (I) and journey-level (II) candidates; appointment level will depend on qualifications and experience.

What You’ll Do (Key Responsibilities)
Typical duties may include:
- Maintain and analyze general, revenue, and expenditure ledgers and subsidiary systems
- Assist with annual budget preparation, monitoring, and revisions
- Prepare, analyze, and review financial, accounting, budgetary, and statistical reports
- Examine and audit accounting records, vouchers, invoices, and payroll for accuracy and compliance
- Prepare journal entries, working papers, and financial statements; assist with year‑end closings
- Develop and recommend improvements to accounting procedures and internal controls
- Prepare cost allocation plans and allocate costs across departments (primarily Level II)
- Provide staff training and may lead or supervise paraprofessional/clerical personnel (primarily Level II)
- Consult with department heads and external stakeholders on fiscal policy and reporting
Who You Are (Knowledge & Skills)
You should have:
- Knowledge of accounting theory, principles, and governmental accounting practices
- Experience with fund accounting, cost allocation, budget monitoring, and financial reporting
- Strong analytical skills and attention to detail
- Ability to interpret Federal, State, and local fiscal regulations and apply policies
- Effective written and verbal communication skills and the ability to present findings
- Familiarity with accounting systems and basic data processing applications
Minimum Qualifications
Accountant Auditor I — one of the following:
- Bachelor’s degree with major coursework in accounting/finance (including at least 15 semester units in elementary and advanced accounting, management accounting, and business law);
- OR two years equivalent experience to an Accounting Technician plus 15 semester units in specified accounting coursework;
- OR equivalent professional accounting/auditing experience substituting for education on a year‑for‑year basis;
- OR 60 semester units (with specified accounting units) plus two years paraprofessional accounting experience.
Accountant Auditor II — one of the following:
- One year of experience equivalent to Accountant Auditor I with the client;
- OR bachelor’s degree in accounting/finance and one year of increasingly responsible professional accounting experience;
- OR 60 semester units (with specified accounting units) plus two years of increasingly responsible professional accounting experience.
