Position overview
Confidential Client is hiring for an Accountant Auditor I/II to join the Health & Human Services Administration branch in Keswick, CA. This is a full-time public-sector accounting role supporting departmental budgeting, fund accounting, audits, financial reporting, and internal controls. This posting covers two levels: Accountant Auditor I (entry/trainee) and Accountant Auditor II (journey-level). Responses to supplemental questions are required. What you’ll do
Typical responsibilities include (accountabilities vary by level):
- Maintain and reconcile general ledger, revenue, and expenditure ledgers and subsidiary financial systems.
- Prepare and review monthly, periodic, and annual financial, accounting, budgetary, and statistical reports.
- Assist with annual budget preparation, monitor budget activities, and recommend appropriation adjustments.
- Examine and audit accounting records, vouchers, warrants, purchase orders, invoices, payroll and other fiscal documents.
- Prepare journal entries, working papers, and financial statements; assist with year-end closing.
- Support grant and fund accounting—analyze reimbursements, revenue estimates and federal/state reporting requirements.
- Develop, implement, and improve accounting procedures and internal controls.
- Provide staff training and may lead or supervise paraprofessional/clerical staff (primarily at Level II).
- Consult with department managers, government officials, and other stakeholders on fiscal policy and accounting methods.
- Prepare the County’s cost allocation plan and perform cost calculations (primarily Level II).
Compensation & schedule
- Employment type: Full time.
- Salary ranges (as posted by the client):
- Accountant Auditor I: $4,457 — $5,690 per month (approx. $53,484 — $68,280 per year)
- Accountant Auditor II: $5,160 — $6,587 per month (approx. $61,920 — $79,044 per year)
- Representative combined range for this posting: $53,484 — $79,044 per year.

Minimum qualifications
Any combination of education and experience that demonstrates the required knowledge and abilities:
Accountant Auditor I (examples — one of the following):
- Bachelor’s degree with major coursework in accounting or a related field (including at least 15 semester units in accounting and business law);
- OR two years of experience equivalent to an Accounting Technician with the client plus 15 semester units in accounting;
- OR equivalent professional accounting/auditing experience substituting for coursework on a year-for-year basis.
Accountant Auditor II (examples — one of the following):
- One year of experience equivalent to Accountant Auditor I with the client;
- OR bachelor’s degree in accounting/finance plus one year of progressively responsible professional accounting experience;
- OR 60 semester units (or 90 quarter units) including required accounting units plus two years of increasingly responsible accounting experience.

Ideal candidate
- Familiarity with governmental/fund accounting, cost allocation, and state & federal reporting requirements.
- Experience preparing and monitoring budgets, performing audits, reconciling accounts, and preparing financial statements.
- Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and ability to meet multiple deadlines in a fast-paced public-sector environment.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills and ability to work collaboratively with managers and external stakeholders.
Special requirements & working conditions

- Typical office work environment with moderate noise level. Regularly required to sit, use hands, reach, occasionally lift up to 25 lbs., and perform close vision tasks.
