What You’ll Do
This is an entry-level, training-focused Accountant/Auditor 1 role supporting grant accounting and financial review for a confidential client in the public/administrative sector. Under direct supervision you will learn and perform tasks related to federal and state grant management, ensuring sub-grantee fund distributions are properly reviewed, validated, and authorized.
Key responsibilities:
- Participate in formal and on-the-job training in government accounting and grant management processes
- Perform monthly reviews, validation, and authorization of fund distributions to sub-grantees
- Collaborate with program specialists (including criminal justice program specialists) to resolve issues or deficiencies
- Maintain strict confidentiality of grant records and any personally identifiable information (PII)
- Use Microsoft Office and Google applications to prepare reports, maintain records, and communicate with internal and external stakeholders
- Support routine administrative accounting tasks and document control as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with at least 24 semester hours in accounting
OR
- Certification or registration as a Public Accountant in West Virginia may be substituted for the training requirement
Note: At the appointing agency’s discretion, competitive candidates may receive a probationary appointment pending official verification of the qualifying training or certification. The qualifying training or certification must be verified before the employee may be certified permanent.
Preferred Qualifications
- Preference will be given to candidates with a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting
- Basic understanding of accounting and auditing principles
- Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced office
- Good written and verbal communication skills

Compensation & Employment Type
- Salary range: $37,536 — $65,020 per year
- Employment type: Permanent, Full time
