Role Overview

Confidential Client seeks an Accountant to join its Advancement Financial team supporting foundation and advancement financial operations. This role performs professional accounting work across general ledger, endowment and investment accounting, cash management, gift and pledge accounting, reconciliations, financial reporting, and audit support. The position is the entry point into a professional accounting career path within the foundation/advancement environment, with opportunities for progression to senior accounting and leadership roles.


What You’ll Do

  • Perform general ledger accounting and month-end close for advancement/foundation funds.
  • Reconcile bank accounts, investment accounts, and subsidiary ledgers (pledges, gifts).
  • Maintain endowment and investment accounting records; prepare periodic investment accounting entries.
  • Process and account for gifts, pledges, and restricted funds in accordance with donor intent and policies.
  • Prepare financial reports for internal stakeholders and external audits; support audit requests.
  • Research accounting issues, prepare analyses, and recommend solutions to ensure compliance with GAAP, IRS guidance, foundation policies, and institutional procedures.
  • Collaborate with Advancement teams, university departments, donors, investment managers, banking partners, and auditors.
  • Support cash management and cash forecasting activities.
  • Assist with special projects and process improvements in accounting workflows.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration and two (2) years of related work experience; OR
  • Master’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration and one (1) year of related work experience.
  • Practical experience in accounting or closely related finance roles.
  • Working knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting best practices.
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated ability to research issues independently and present clear recommendations.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills and ability to collaborate cross-functionally.

Preferred / Useful Skills

  • Experience with endowment or nonprofit/foundation accounting.
  • Experience with gift/pledge accounting or fund accounting systems.
  • Familiarity with audit processes and preparing schedules for external auditors.
  • Hands-on experience with common accounting systems and Excel-based analyses.

Schedule, Travel & Hiring Details

  • Employment type: Full-time, permanent.
  • Schedule: Variable work schedule.
  • Occasional travel may be required.
  • Compensation grade: Administrative Faculty – B. Candidates will be hired at a level comparable to experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities. Salary is competitive and commensurate with related education and experience.
