Position overview
Confidential Client (public retirement system) is hiring an Accountant (Accountant 1/2/3) to join the Accounting Team in Baton Rouge, LA. This is a full-time, on-site role that provides entry- to mid-level professional financial support, including employer account management, payroll and tax administration, financial reporting and audit support, and investment/financial reconciliations. This vacancy may be filled at the Accountant 1, 2, or 3 level depending on experience.
What You’ll Do
- Perform comprehensive bank and investment reconciliations for primary agency accounts; manage cash flows, electronic bank files, ACH transactions, and stop payments.
- Oversee employer account management—accounting, billing, balancing statements, resolving payment discrepancies, issuing exception notices, and maintaining member employment records.
- Administer payroll and tax activity (internal staff payroll and multi‑million-dollar retirement tax accounts) using Abila or similar systems.
- Support financial reporting and audit compliance; coordinate data with actuaries and investment teams to help prepare annual financial statements.
- Track and resolve exceptions and complex payment issues to ensure accurate financial records.
Minimum qualifications
One of the following is required:
- Three years of experience in accounting, auditing, financial operations, payroll, or banking; OR
- Six years of full-time experience in any field plus 24 semester hours in accounting; OR
- A bachelor’s degree with 24 semester hours in accounting; OR
- A bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business administration, management, economics, or statistics; OR
- An advanced degree in accounting, finance, business administration, management, economics, quantitative methods, or statistics; OR
- Possession of a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license.
Experience substitution: Every 30 semester hours earned from an accredited college or university will be credited as one year of experience toward the six years of full-time work experience in any field (maximum substitution allowed = 120 semester hours, which substitutes for up to four years of experience).

Location, hours & compensation
- Location: Baton Rouge, LA (on-site)
- Hours: Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM
- Employment type: Full-time
- Salary: $3,345 – $6,566 per month (as listed by the hiring organization)
- Career progression: May be hired as Accountant 1, 2, or 3 depending on qualifications.
