What You’ll Do

Develop and deliver evaluation signals, metrics, and pipelines that measure the quality and driving characteristics of the onboard software stack (Planner, Perception, etc.) for a confidential client working in autonomous driving and related systems.

  • Develop signals to measure performance and driving qualities using statistics, math, physics, algorithms and machine learning.
  • Mine real-world driving logs and design creative simulation experiments to evaluate software changes.
  • Design and implement methods that connect onboard software changes to simulated and real-world outcomes.
  • Build and maintain data processing pipelines and tooling for robust metric computation.
  • Advocate and implement code health best practices across a large, multi-language codebase.
  • Analyze results, improve metric interpretability and quality, and present recommendations to technical and leadership stakeholders.
  • Collaborate closely with engineers, data scientists, statisticians, and product/engineering leadership to deliver evaluation products that support data-driven release decisions.

You Have

  • BS in Computer Science, Robotics, Statistics, Physics, Math, or another quantitative field.
  • 1+ years of professional industry experience working on data-driven engineering or analytics problems.
  • Experience navigating and modifying large codebases with languages such as C++, Python and SQL.
  • Experience performing statistical analyses and building data processing pipelines.
  • Demonstrated discipline for writing, reviewing, and merging code that follows industry standards for maintainability and code health.
  • Strong quantitative/data fluency and ability to work independently on open-ended technical problems.
  • Strong communication skills to collaborate across engineering, analytical, and leadership teams.

We Prefer

  • Practical experience coding in C++.
  • Experience applying machine learning to measurement or evaluation problems.
  • Experience with A/B experimentation infrastructure or causal experiment design.
  • Experience designing, building, and validating metrics to measure quality in complex systems.
  • Familiarity with rapid prototyping and ad-hoc analysis tools (e.g., Jupyter, pandas, R, MATLAB).
  • Prior experience in the AV industry or working with simulation-driven evaluation systems.

Compensation & Benefits

The expected base salary range for this full-time position across US locations is $170,000—$216,000 USD. Actual starting pay will be based on job-related factors, including exact work location, experience, relevant training and education, and skill level. Location & Work Model

This role follows a hybrid work schedule based in Mountain View, CA and reports to a Sr. Staff Engineering Manager at the confidential client. Specific on-site expectations and remote work allowances will be discussed during the interview process.
