Overview

Confidential Client is seeking an entry-level civil engineer to participate in an Employee Development Growth Experience (EDGE) program. This role develops technical and leadership competencies across multiple transportation engineering disciplines (location & design, materials, construction, structures/bridges, maintenance, environmental, planning, traffic operations and residency operations). You will apply academic engineering training to real projects, support teams, produce technical analyses and reports, and communicate with internal and external stakeholders.

What You’ll Do

• Participate in the EDGE program to develop technical and leadership skills as an early-career civil engineer.
• Apply civil engineering principles to support project development, roadway design, construction, materials, maintenance, and environmental work.
• Prepare clear, concise technical analyses, reports, recommendations and status updates.
• Assist with project engineering tasks including scope, schedule, budget, deliverables, change management, and quality control.
• Perform field inspections, construction documentation, and basic construction oversight as required.
• Provide technical guidance and training related to assigned program areas.
• Communicate effectively with internal staff, local governments, consultants, contractors, and the public.
• Support special program initiatives and serve on committees or work groups as assigned.

Key Responsibilities

• Analyze and interpret engineering data; prepare reports and recommendations.
• Use established policies and procedures to develop and deliver projects that comply with applicable laws and standards.
• Assist in roadway and geometric design, ensuring compliance with standards and safety considerations.
• Support materials, pavement and geotechnical engineering activities with quality assurance knowledge.
• Demonstrate working knowledge of environmental, right-of-way, traffic operations, structure & bridge, and maintenance responsibilities.
• Manage multiple concurrent tasks and report progress to supervisors and stakeholders.

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree (completed or near completion) in Civil Engineering, Civil Engineering Technology, or related ABET-accredited program by start date.
• Ability to apply engineering principles and complete assigned projects and tasks.
• Ability to make independent decisions, prioritize work, and meet deadlines.
• Must be at least 18 years of age by the start of employment.
• Skill in basic computer operations and familiarity with MS Office and common engineering/project-management tools.
• Must pass the Fundamentals of Engineering (F.E.) exam and obtain Engineer-in-Training (EIT) designation within 12 months of employment (or already possess EIT).

Preferred / Additional Considerations

• Experience with roadway design, geometric design application, and transportation projects.
• Experience interpreting technical plans, specifications, and construction documents.
• Prior experience or coursework in construction inspection, materials testing, or geotechnical fundamentals.
• Possession of the EIT designation at time of hire is a plus.
• Strong written and verbal communication, analytical reasoning, and customer-service skills.

• Ability to perform field work and inspections, including site visits that may require walking rough terrain and exposure to typical construction environments.
• Must follow and promote safe work practices at all times.
