5th Grade Teacher
The 5th Grade Teacher is responsible for delivering curriculum-aligned instruction that supports intellectual, emotional, physical, and social development of students. This role involves lesson planning, classroom management, student assessment, and collaboration with staff to accommodate diverse learning needs, including ESL and special education. The teacher also fosters positive community relations and participates in ongoing professional development to enhance instructional effectiveness.

Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university.
- Valid Texas teaching certificate with the required endorsement for the assigned subject and grade level, or completion of an approved alternative certification program.
- Must hold ESL certification or obtain ESL certification by February of the school year in which you are hired.
- Satisfactory fingerprint/background check result (non-refundable fee paid by employee, approx. $50).
Knowledge & Skills
- Demonstrated competency in assigned academic subject areas.
- General knowledge of curriculum and instruction for elementary grades.
- Ability to design and research teaching units and lesson plans.
- Strong classroom management skills and ability to instruct students effectively.
- Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency using classroom technology to support instruction.
Experience
- Student teaching, approved internship, or related classroom experience preferred.
Major Responsibilities and Duties

- Plan, prepare, and deliver lessons that meet district curriculum requirements and accommodate diverse learning styles.
- Use assessment data and ongoing evaluation to plan instruction and interventions.
- Implement appropriate instructional strategies, materials, and technologies.
- Collaborate with teachers and support staff to modify curriculum for students with special needs (Special Education, 504, Bilingual).
- Manage student behavior according to the Student Code of Conduct and school policies.
- Foster student growth through coaching study skills, conducting formal/informal assessments, and sponsoring approved extracurricular activities.
- Maintain communication with parents, students, principals, and staff; participate in parent conferences and staff meetings.
- Supervise instructional aides, volunteers, and student teachers as assigned.
- Maintain required records, file reports, and protect student confidentiality.
- Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.
Working Conditions
- Frequent walking, standing, stooping, bending, lifting, and carrying classroom materials.
- May require occasional physical restraint of students in dangerous situations.
- Work may include irregular and extended hours, occasional travel, and exposure to temperature extremes, noise, and biological hazards.
- Use of computers for prolonged periods.
Compensation & Employment Type
- Compensation: $50.00 per hour.
- Employment type: Contract — Full time.
