What You’ll Do
Confidential Client seeks an Early Professional Electrical Engineer to join its Power & Energy team supporting transmission, distribution, and substation projects. This entry-level role contributes to engineering design, documentation, and technical reviews under close supervision while learning industry standards and client expectations.
- Assist with data collection, compilation, and analysis for substation components and power distribution systems.
- Support preparation of equipment specifications, procurement packages, and pricing inputs.
- Help produce single-line and three-line diagrams, wiring diagrams, general arrangement drawings, and substation layouts.
- Perform basic electrical calculations: load estimates, equipment sizing, feeder sizing, voltage drop, grounding, and lighting circuits.
- Contribute to grounding grid design and lightning protection details following applicable standards.
- Provide entry-level input on AC/DC panel design, conduit/trenching strategies, and cable sizing.
- Generate clear, accurate documentation (drawings, field notes, logs) using electronic tools and CAD software.
- Follow safety procedures and site-specific requirements during any field work or surveys.
- Complete assigned training and follow Confidential Client’s policies and Code of Conduct.
Responsibilities
- Support design tasks for utility, industrial, and commercial scale projects.
- Apply IEEE, NESC, and NERC guidance to design and review tasks as directed.
- Assist with review and coordination of IFC/IRC design packages.
- Prepare and maintain engineering documentation and deliverables to project standards.
- Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams and communicate technical findings to engineering and non-engineering stakeholders.
- Participate in occasional travel to job sites as project needs require.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering.
- 0–1 years of post-degree experience (entry / early professional level).
- Strong analytical and research skills with attention to detail.
- Basic understanding of electrical engineering concepts used in large capital projects.
- Familiarity with electrical construction codes, industry standards, and compliance practices.
- Proficient written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to prioritize, multi-task, and work independently under general supervision or collaboratively on a team.
- Basic technical writing and proficiency with office productivity tools and spreadsheets.
- Familiarity with discipline-specific design software (e.g., CADD, AutoCAD Electrical, Aspen/CAPE) is a plus.
- Commitment to workplace safety and ability to comply with health & safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
- Ability to work project-driven schedules; occasional travel may be required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification or progress toward licensure.
- Prior internship or relevant experiential learning in electrical engineering.
- Active participation in local professional or student engineering organizations.
Compensation & Benefits
Confidential Client provides a comprehensive benefits package including medical, dental, vision, life and disability coverage; retirement savings; paid leave; and parental leave. Estimated compensation for this role: $61,300 - $91,900 per year (range provided in good faith; final offer depends on experience, education, and location).
Location & Work Model
This position is based in Syracuse, NY. Work will primarily be office-based with occasional site visits dependent on project needs.
