Role Overview
Confidential Client is hiring entry-level and early-career Embedded Software Engineers in Rolling Meadows, IL to work on mission-focused embedded systems. These positions support development across the full software lifecycle for real-time, safety- and security-sensitive systems. A U.S. Secret security clearance is required to start; U.S. citizenship is a pre-requisite.
What You’ll Do
- Participate across the full product lifecycle: design, implementation, verification, test and production of embedded software for digital electronic and hardware systems
- Develop and maintain embedded code, unit tests, and integration tests
- Work on low-level and application-level software for navigation, targeting, self-protection, and related mission systems
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including hardware, systems, and test engineers
- Apply software engineering best practices: version control, code reviews, continuous integration, and configuration management
- Support system-level integration, troubleshooting, and field/test activities (travel ~10% possible)
Minimum Qualifications
Associate Embedded Software Engineer
- Bachelor’s degree completed or near completion in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a closely related STEM field
- Eligible to obtain U.S. Government security clearance (U.S. citizenship required)
- Ability to obtain required Special Access Program access within a reasonable timeframe
- Final U.S. Government Secret clearance is required to start
Embedded Software Engineer
- Master’s degree plus ~1 year relevant experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a closely related STEM field
- Eligible to obtain U.S. Government security clearance (U.S. citizenship required)
- Ability to obtain required Special Access Program access within a reasonable timeframe
- Final U.S. Government Secret clearance is required to start
Preferred Qualifications
- Overall GPA of 3.0/4.0 or higher preferred
- Current active U.S. Government Secret clearance is a plus
- Helpful coursework or experience in:
- Structured programming in C
- Object-oriented programming in C++ or Java
- Software architecture, design patterns, multithreaded programming
- Operating system concepts for embedded systems
- Software development methodologies (Agile and/or Waterfall)
- Version control tools (Git, GitLab, GitHub, Bitbucket, etc.)
- Agile planning tools (Jira, Rally)
Compensation & Benefits
- Pay range for Associate Embedded Software Engineer: $72,700 - $109,100 per year
- Pay range for Embedded Software Engineer: $87,600 - $131,400 per year
- Exact offer depends on role level, experience, education, skills, and market factors
- Benefits may include health insurance, life and disability insurance, retirement/savings plans, paid time off, company-paid holidays, and eligibility for discretionary bonuses or long-term incentives depending on role

- Work location: Rolling Meadows, IL (on-site / local facility)
